Teacher Externship Opportunities:
Teacher at Work:
Teachers spend a summer "on the job" in an area business that relates to their subject area. Grant Wood AEA and the Workplace Learning Connection work together to provide teachers with real-world practices to take into their classrooms.
Participants are required to attend a two-hour orientation sessions and a three-hour debriefing session. Internship length is 40 hours and participants earn three hours or re-certification credit.
The insights teachers gain from their experiences allow them to:
- Facilitate the use of real-world examples as more teachers are utilizing contextual learning.
- Encourage communication between education and the workplace.
- Enhance a teacher's understanding of all aspects of an industry.
Iowa Teacher STEM Externships:
How many times have you heard a student ask, "When will I ever use this?"
The Iowa STEM Teacher Externships Program aim to help teachers answer that age-old question.
During the summer, educators work side-by-side with knowledgeable and skilled industry employees who help bring the classroom curriculum to life. Teacher Externships provide educators with the exposure to answer questions about real-world application, prepare students for careers they may have in the future, and improve educational experiences.
