Business Attraction and Workforce Development Manager

Responsibilities:

Ensure that Marion is top of mind for target industries and the future workforce

  • Develop and implement a strategic business attraction plan
  • Oversee the execution and monitoring of business attraction projects
  • Create a proposed annual budget for business attraction initiatives
  • Represent MEDCO in partnership opportunities with IEDA
  • Coordinates with partners on workforce development strategies

Passionate ambassador of MEDCO and the Marion community

  • Grow awareness of MEDCO to potential new investors
  • Promote the value of the organization to current investors

Business Attraction:

Lead the crucial role of driving basic sector economic growth across Marion

  • Build a strong understanding of target industry strategies
  • Develop a strategy for new business attraction based on industry clusters
    • Attraction of suppliers or customers of local companies
  • Stay updated on trends of emerging industries that are a fit for Marion
  • Co-lead the Marion Holdings Corporation Board (Marion Enterprise Center)
    • Develop a meeting agenda and reports with the Manager of Existing Industry Engagement
  • Investigation of sites for the Marion Enterprise Center 2.0
  • Attend target industry conferences and tradeshows
  • Schedule face-to-face meetings with executives of target industries to promote the benefits of a location in Marion

Workforce Development:

Cultivate our talent pipeline

  • Scale Marion Student Built House with industry
    • Introduce students to trade industries to establish career path opportunities
  • Continue to strengthen the healthcare partnership with Mercy Hospital.
  • Support Venture Academics by connecting teachers and students with projects as needed
  • Extend high school programming to the potential workforce in smaller surrounding communities
    • Alburnett, Springville, Central City, Anamosa
  • Lead and grow the HR Roundtable group
  • Continue to expand the Human Resources Voice Call program
  • Assess the workforce/skill requirements of large employers for Community College programs to develop a talent pipeline based on specific skill requirements
    • Kirkwood CC – CR
    • Hawkeye CC – Waterloo
    • Muscatine CC - Muscatine
    • Northeast Iowa CC – Calmar/Peosta
    • Clinton CC – Clinton
    • Marshalltown CC – Marshalltown
  • Evaluate the workforce/skill requirements of large employers for college programs to develop a talent pipeline
    • Coe College and Mt Mercy University – Cedar Rapids
    • U of I, ISU, and UNI
  • Promote internship, job shadowing, and apprenticeship opportunities

Preferred Software Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
