For the first time, the Partnering in Moving Marion Forward Bus Tour was held twice in one day. In previous years, the tour sold out quickly, which sparked the idea to offer two tours this time—and it was an overwhelming success!
Both tours followed the same route, starting at Parkview Elementary School. The school showcased vibrant classrooms and open spaces, welcoming everyone with a sense of pride. The new building teaches students from Pre-K through 2nd grade. Parkview is located on the old site of Thomas Park Field.
The Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity House was available to tour, two weeks ahead of its new family. As everyone toured the home, they could all sense the impact it would have on the neighborhood.
At the Marion Public Services Building, participants were impressed with the facility, sharing an appreciation for the hard work it took to rebuild after the derecho. The facility features expanded storage for equipment, fleet maintenance, and fabrication areas for the department that handles street repairs, snow and ice control, sewer upkeep, and garbage collection. A ribbon cutting will commemorate the completion of the facility on September 24th at 4 PM.
The Marion Holiday Inn Express drew excitement from both tours as they walked through the nearly finished hotel. With its modern amenities and sleek design, everyone could picture themselves or future guests enjoying a stay there! Once finished, the 93-unit hotel will offer various room types with 55-inch TVs and amenities like a pool, fitness center, and free breakfast. The hotel is expected to open later this fall.
Participants wrapped up with visits to Staged Dwellings and the under-construction The Eat Shop, the collective excitement of two busloads of Marion residents and supporters was fun to see. They left with a renewed sense of pride, knowing they had witnessed something remarkable.
