Marion Economic Development Corporation and its Board of Directors believe our K-12 education system plays a vital role in equipping the next generation of community leaders to be future ready. Strategic capital investments in school facilities are essential to supporting that mission.

On March 5, 2024, voters in both the Marion Independent School District (MISD) and Linn-Mar Community School District will be asked to renew the existing PPEL levy which is used to maintain and repair district facilities. The renewal would ensure funds for another 10 years. This is a continuation of a levy that is already part of the tax rate. What is PPEL? The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) is a voter-approved levy that serves as a revenue source for funding school infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements.

The levy generates approximately $1 million per year for the Marion Independent School District and $3.5 million for Linn-Mar Community School District which will be essential in maintaining new and existing facilities. The MEDCO Board of Directors applauds the work of both school districts.

The MEDCO Board encourages all business owners and district voters to learn more about each district’s plan by going to https://www.linnmar.k12.ia.us/news/physical-plant-equipment-levy-ppel/ for Linn-Mar Community School District and https://www.marion-isd.org/article/1414936 for Marion Independent School District.

Marion is the best place in Iowa to raise a family and grow a business. This doesn’t happen by accident. To continue providing the best education for tomorrow’s workforce, we must have adequate space and safe facilities for our students. They are the future of our community. The MEDCO Board of Directors supports both the Linn-Mar and MISD PPEL and encourages our community and business partners to Vote Yes on Tuesday, March 5th.
