For the fourth time, a RAISE grant application has been submitted to complete the full construction of Tower Terrace Road. If approved, dollars would be provided for all sections of Tower Terrace Road not already funded between I-380 and HWY 13. The project received high marks during the latest application window but there was not enough funding available to support the project. Since then, the project received $5 million in Community Project Funding (CPF) that will go towards preliminary engineering, environmental work, and right-of-way acquisitions. This support is expected to help improve the project score. The joint application includes the cities of Marion, Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Robins, Linn County and the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (CMPO). The funding request is for $36.6 million of the $50.6 million project. Cities expect to be notified of the outcome of the application by June.

Construction is also anticipated to get underway soon for the next segment (phase B) of Tower Terrace Road extending west to C Avenue in Cedar Rapids. Drivers will notice construction underway near Alburnett Road. This latest phase will commence further west. This $1 million segment includes grading and utilities from where the road is currently under construction to C Avenue in Cedar Rapids. The contractor is Rathje Construction, and they will start the clearing and grubbing soon. The pipe work will start likely in July.
