In 2021, the Marion City Council directed city staff to develop design standards that would pertain to commercial, office, and multi-family development projects community wide. After several months of feedback and review, the council adopted new community-wide standards on January 5th.
Commercial, office, institutional, and multi-family projects now need to follow both the architectural design standard requirements and site plan review process. Design standards do not apply to manufacturing projects, however the new site plan review process must be followed.
Marion Economic Development solicited input from several regional developers and architects to inform the development and refinement of the adopted standards.
Any development located within the current Central Corridor zoning will continue to follow the Central Corridor guidelines. That is also true for any project that is located on a property zoned Planned Unit Development, as there are separate processes for these zoning districts that are also being retained.
