Marion Launches Online Survey to Gather Input On Central Plaza Amenities

Published Thursday, August 25, 2022

The City of Marion and the Central Plaza Steering Committee are seeking input from residents on various aspects of the Central Plaza project, which was recently awarded $3 million in funding through the state’s Destination Iowa program.

An online survey is now available at https://polco.us/sc9trc and will be open through Wednesday, Aug. 31. The feedback will be considered by the Plaza Steering Committee and Marion City Council before design documents are finalized and construction documents are prepared.

The Central Plaza project grew out of many visioning efforts and public master planning processes. The concept is focused on enhancing the year-round curb appeal and functionality of a portion of City Square Park in Uptown Marion. The Central Plaza will incorporate the Depot, the eastern triangle of the park and the vacated portion of 11th Street (which allows the existing park to expand by 0.45 acres).

The City expects to take the project to bid this winter with construction starting in 2023.

The survey should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Responses are completely confidential and survey results will be reported in group form only.

Participants will be asked to provide their zip code (to confirm residency) and email address at www.polco.us/MarionIA. Privacy is guaranteed and the email address will only be used to send notification of additional surveys from the City of Marion.
