Earlier this month, local leaders learned the Tower Terrace Road project was not awarded a $25M federal grant designed to construct significant portions of Tower Terrace Road. Once complete Tower Terrace Road will provide a significant arterial connection from I-380 to Highway 13.

Marion Economic Development partnered with a coalition of advocacy groups to generate more than 100 business support letters. The grant application was submitted jointly by the City of Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, Linn County, and Cedar Rapids.

According to the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization, as published in the Gazette, the project has a benefit of $18 for every $1 invested. This is the third time metro communities have tried to apply for the federal grant. The remaining price tag to complete Tower Terrace Road is estimated to be $51M. The City of Marion is currently responsible for $21M of that cost.
