September continues to be a busy month at Prospect Meadows in Marion. For the first time, a team from Honolulu will travel more than 4,000 miles to compete in the WWBA Kernels Foundation Championship. That tournament is scheduled for September 17-20. A total of ten states will be represented with Hawaii joining midwest entries from Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio and South Dakota. Tournament directors expect approximately 85 teams for the Kernels Foundation Championship.

Perfect Game also expects to welcome 75 teams for its Midwest Labor Day Classic (Sept. 3-6), 46 clubs for the Midwest Select Championships (Sept. 10-12) and 40 teams for another Midwest Select Championships event (Sept. 24-27). In total, approximately 245 teams will play at Prospect Meadows in September, nearing the previous one month record of 250 teams set in July.

"It goes to show the amount of emphasis and commitment that Perfect Game has put into Prospect Meadows," said Steve James, the general manager at Prospect Meadows.

In July, Perfect Game attracted 250 teams to Prospect Meadows in one month. By the end of the summer it’s estimated that Prospect Meadows will have welcomed more than 1,200 teams this season. Since 2019, the facility has hosted teams from 21 different states. This season Prospect Meadows is on track to surpass 10,000 hotel rooms booked, with an estimated local economic impact of $10 million.

Prospect Meadows also will feature a variety of activities in October before the baseball and softball season comes to an end. The Mya Strong Tournament is set for Oct. 16-17, along with the Mount Mercy Fall League, ICCAC softball scrimmages and a 14-inch softball tournament. The fall Kiwanis Miracle League continues on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until noon until Oct 2.
