Legacy Manufacturing to Move Forward With Marion Expansion

Published Friday, August 18, 2017

Marion, IA – Legacy® Manufacturing Company officially announced today their plans to move forward with a 200,000 square foot expansion to its recently completed headquarters in Marion.  The project is a result of continued growth and success in reshoring U.S. manufacturing processes. In 2016, Legacy completed its 133,000 square foot facility located at 6509 Partners Avenue in Marion. Phase two of the project will create new capital investment estimated at $14 million. Today the company received final regulatory and governmental approval of financial assistance.

Legacy has been serving various markets since 1986, offering a wide-range of professional grade service and maintenance equipment for automotive, industrial, contractor, agricultural and marine markets throughout North America.

R. Mark Weems, president of Legacy, says “Legacy is committed to the continued development of superior products designed and produced in Eastern Iowa. When you lead the industry with great quality products like Flexzilla®, customers learn to trust your brand and become very loyal.

The expansion will continue to support Legacy’s plans to re-shore many of its proprietary products including the Flexzilla® brand of air hose. Legacy’s Flexzilla® branded hose products have also opened up the vast lawn and garden and outdoor power categories, leading to robust growth for the company. Customers in America include: Farm stores TSC to Theisen’s; auto part stores including NAPA to O’Reilly; industrial distributors Grainger to McMaster-Carr; tool and equipment distributors Snap-On to MAC Tools; hardware chains True Value to Do-It-Best; Menards and Sears.

Marion is proud to be the home of Legacy Manufacturing,” said Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssaly. “Legacy’s impressive growth is a testament to Marion’s exceptional business environment, which creates the conditions for local businesses to prosper, thus providing employment opportunities and enhancing the quality of life of area residents.

The Marion City Council passed a resolution of support for the sponsorship of the state financial assistance application at its meeting Thursday night.  The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board approved the project application earlier today. State financial assistance will be in the form of tax credits created as a result of their own capital investments. Marion Economic Development Corporation led the project development process. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance assisted in the preparation of the state application.

“We’re pleased to support Legacy’s expansion in the Marion Enterprise Center,” says Nick Glew, MEDCO President. “Legacy is a statewide leader in proving that the reshoring of U.S. manufacturing is possible through strategic partnerships with other great companies in the United States.

Construction will begin this fall. The expansion is expected to create 13 new jobs over the next three years. Legacy currently has 58 employees in Marion.
