Description:
Low-Voltage Technicians perform installation and maintenance for all voice, data and video work in commercial office buildings, complexes, hospitals and manufacturing plants. Types of work include:
  • Fiber Optic Networks
  • Data Networks
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Nurses Call Systems
  • CCTV Systems
  • Security Systems
  • Telephone Systems

Starting salary:
The Low-Voltage apprenticeship program offers the apprentice a standard set of six wage increases starting at $14.94 to $16.43 for 1st year; $17.93 to $19.42 for 2nd year; $20.92 to $23.90 for 3rd year, and currently culminating at a VDV Technician completion wage of $29.88 an hour.

Company benefits:
Apprenticeship training is tuition free! ; Apprentices are responsible for annual book fees. All apprentices have full health care benefits paid on their behalf; ($6.60 per hour). Three separate pensions; local pension is $7.25 an hour for JW?s (apprentices have the same percentage of pension as their corresponding pay rate); NEBF pension pays $33 per month per year of service; IBEW pension pays a defined benefit.

Training, certifications, or degree needed to qualify for the position:
3-year Systematic Program include 4,800 hours of paid on-the-job training and 480 hours of related study (classroom and lab). Valid Driver?s License High School completion transcript or equivalency NCRC (national career readiness certificate) Silver level. Students must contact IWD to schedule this test. Optional; any post-secondary educational transcripts, or any military service records
