Thompson Truck & Trailer - Diesel Technician

General Job Description: Diesel Technicians provide high quality repair and maintenance for our customers vehicles. Thompson Truck & Trailer is a full-service commercial truck dealership serving customers in six locations in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. We specialize in International, Isuzu Trucks, and Idealease Leasing & Rental, and have the tools and parts to work on ALL makes and models. We are a family owned business with over 200 employees. We promote a team atmosphere and are driven by the success of our customers and employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance and repair services for diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical trouble shooting, steering and cooling systems.
  • Document work performed for invoicing and customer management.
  • Ensure services provided are in compliance with safety procedures.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license required, and be able to obtain CDL.
  • Must possess basic tools for role.
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred, but not required.
  • Prior automotive or diesel experience preferred, but not required.

Starting salary (may include a range): $14.00 - $20.00/hour

High school courses important to the position: English and writing - used to document work performed for customer invoicing.

Training, certifications, or degree needed to qualify for the position: High school diploma or GED. Additional training and certifications are available throughout employment.

Specific skills that your business recognizes as fundamental to employment (life skills): Desire to learn! Technology is always changing and new models/parts are being released. Diesel Technicians must continually learn and practice new skills.
