Marion, IA – Spee-Dee Delivery Service plans to formally break ground on a new 27,000 square foot distribution facility in the Marion Enterprise Center. The ground breaking will take place on Monday, June 18th at 11 am. The site is located at 6611 Partners Avenue, south of Elplast America. The facility will replace Spee-Dee’s existing Marion location and support the company’s continued growth across its Midwest footprint.
Founded in 1978, Spee-Dee is a Minnesota based on-demand package delivery business. Spee-Dee employs more than 1,800 people and operates a fleet of over 1,500 vehicles. They offer reliable, cost effective, overnight package delivery for more than 12,000 shippers across nine states. The company handles over 70,000 packages every day.
The project will allow Spee-Dee to expand its local employee base from 41 full time positions to more than 50 over the next five years. Total capital investment is expected to be $4 million. Strack Companies is the general contractor for the facility.
The property is being developed by associates of GLD Commercial Real Estate. This project, along with the Marriott TownePlace Suites and the recently announced Dollar Tree, represents a total investment by GLD led projects of more than $18 million over the past two years in Marion.
The Marion Enterprise Center (MEC) is a certified shovel ready office and industrial park located along highway 151 on the east side of the community. Other recent expansions in the MEC include Electric Specialty Manufacturing, Legacy Manufacturing, and Elplast America. It is owned by MEDCO Holding Company, a subsidiary of Marion Economic Development Corporation.
