Local tax incentives

MEDCO will help you coordinate local tax incentives that may be available from the City of Marion. These may include tax exemptions, Tax Increment Financing (TIF), and other local programs.  TIF financing allows businesses to have property taxes rebated back to the business owner.

The Marion Economic Development Company will help you find state and local financing for your business or other seed capital opportunities.  MEDCO can provide low interest loans to those companies that meet requirements.  These funds are to be used for GAP financing purposes.


State of Iowa Business Assistance programs

The State of Iowa Business Assistance offers a wider range of programs to assist businesses and communities with economic development and business expansion.  MEDCO will help you in researching and completing applications for assistance through the state of Iowa.  The following are a few programs in which the State of Iowa offers business assistance.

Direct Assistance to a Company

Iowa Demonstration Fund:  The fund provides up to $150,000 to encourage commercialization activities by small and medium-sized Iowa companies in the advanced manufacturing, biosciences, and information technology industries.


Grow Iowa Values Financial Assistance Program — Serves as the funding source for projects that are focused on job creation or retention, value-added agriculture and entrepreneurial efforts. This program, combined with Iowa’s nationally recognized business climate, tax incentives and proactive state government make Iowa a great place to do business.

Supply Chain Development — Global competitiveness requires Iowa original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and their suppliers to adopt best practices to effectively and efficiently meet the requirements of their existing customers and to identify new customers. Targeted industries of biosciences, information technology, and advanced manufacturing now have access to financial assistance designed to identify and adopt performance improvement programs, create improved linkages to Iowa suppliers, their production capabilities and capacities, and technology commercialization services for supply chain development.

Entrepreneurial Assistance — Financial capital may be available for early-stage and high growth companies.

Targeted Small Business Program (TSB) — Designed to create and expand minority- or women-owned businesses through direct loans

Export Trade Assistance Program (ETAP) — Iowa may reimburse you for up to 75% of your international marketing efforts.
